Did you try teaching ? -
Home / Blog

Our Entrepreneur Development Research Centre ( EDRC) has been surveying business opportunities.  One area that has evolved, quietly , is teaching.   In its traditional format,  teaching is much sought after, if your skills are in place.   Teaching at the school children level can be tiring but extremely gratifying.   Accounts for classes 11 and 12 , Mathematics at high school level,  physics & Chemistry etc., have been much sought after subjects when it comes to person coaching.   It is peer pressure that helps these teachers thrive.   Peer pressure from the student group and their parents,  who often believe that the Child needs teaching beyond what is done at School.   The need to excel or the need to stay tuned to subjects has made teaching a very attractive proposition for people post 50.

  • You need to have  a place near a school or schools / colleges.  Or hire a private school room for a few hours after school.  Some are willing to give it on rent.
  • You need not spruce up the place.  Plain chairs ( not even desks) are fine with the children
  • You need  move with the children like a friend and not a teacher.   Because they face this at school with a stiff teacher, they enjoy learning at a more relaxed atmosphere when it comes to tuitions.
  • Be there when they need you.
  • Collect 5 – 6 years question papers and school test papers,  to help you have a quick start.
  • You should be willing to walk the extra mile.
  • Remember,  when you teach,  you are targeting a parent who is keen that the child should excel.  So the opportunity is enormous.
  • We have studied the fee structure and the various models that operate and will be more than glad to assist you.
  • If you play the game well,  and build a name for yourself in three to four years,  then business just flows.
