Arranging for respite care for elders doesn’t require too much preparation. A brief visit or enquiry will do the job. Get a checklist ready on what you need to ask/check and run through it. It is recommended to contact the community at least a week in advance so that you ensure that they have the space to accommodate your elder. If it is a planned vacation, it is recommended that you book in advance.
Testing it Out
It is recommended that you test the facility before actually waiting for the time of vacation, break or illness of the caregiver. A physical inspection or a weekend stay arrangement for the elder while you are still around will help you understand the facility better.
